Summer Sing 2024

Student Center, July 20th @ 10AM

Everyone is invited to experience our beloved choir! We will listen to great music, sing through some old and new favorites, cast a vision for outreach, and enjoy lunch together. All are welcome!

Dear Cornerstone Family,

While I may be biased, I believe that there is something magnificent about communal singing.  Beyond bias, I see that it is biblical and demonstrated in the dynamic relationship of the trinity.

The Father as singer...

“The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves.  He will take great delight in you; in his love He will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with SINGING!” Zeph 3:17

The Son as singer...

“For he who sanctifies and those who are sanctified all have one source.  That is why he is not ashamed to call them brothers, saying, “I will tell of your name to my brothers; in the midst of the congregation I will sing your praise.” Heb 2:11-12 (quoting Psalm 22)

The Spirit as singer...

Instead, be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit.  Eph 5:18-19

There is something integrative about singing.  It takes our mind, body and spirit together to really sing.  It takes an understanding of God’s creation as co-creators with him.  It takes all the bits and information of our faith and holistically  enacts it in a singular moment of gratuitous response to God.  It is both response and practice simultaneously transforming and training us toward and for worship.  And in our singing, we know God.

The Cornerstone Choir is hosting a Summer Sing on July 20th and we want you to join us!

You may be interested in this event for a couple reasons.  One, a song has been placed in your heart.  You have been given both a disposition to and the gift of voice and need a place to live out your call faithfully.  This event is for you!  Or two, you may be intrigued by what choir is all about.  Why is it helpful in the Christian tradition?  Why does the choir seem to love it so much?  What is so special about it?  This event is for you!

Whether you are interested in joining or want to (in an uncommitted way) hang out with us for a morning of music and fellowship, we would love to have you!

Things to know about choir before you start:

  • Everyone is welcome!!
  • We have singers at all levels of skill and experience.
  • Music is not an end in and of itself but finds its value as the self-revealing beauty of God.  We serve God not music!

As much as we like to sing – we also love a good party, so lunch is provided!

Again, I am biased and think choir is the best thing ever!  And, even more, it is where we (the choir) regularly meet the Lord, so from the bottom of my heart, I want to extend an open-arm invitation to you to join us in song.

In song,

Sarah Hunt
