Job’s life was given as an example of a life that God blessed with material possessions. He was a recipient of God’s goodness and mercy. God worked through these blessings in Job’s life so that mercy and goodness followed behind him as well. Read Job 31:16-34. Discuss a few examples of how God’s goodness and mercy to Job was a blessing to others.

King Solomon was also blessed by God in material possessions. When asked by God what he wanted from the Lord, Solomon asked for wisdom. Read 1 Kings 3:5-9 and 1 King 4:29-34. In your group, discuss how God used Solomon’s gift of wisdom as a blessing to others.

Read 2 Corinthians 1:3-7. How does Paul describe the reciprocal nature of God’s comfort? How can this truth be a comfort in times of suffering and hardship?

Consider how the Lord God showed his mercy and his goodness to you through the lives of others. Share in your group ways in which God used other people (friends, family, co-workers), who God had blessed with his goodness and mercy, to bring blessings into your life.

Share about how God has been merciful and good to you in your life and how God might be using that mercy and goodness to flow into the lives of others. Consider and pray about how your life can be a legacy of mercy and goodness to others.
